Storage Sunday - Nail Producs

Happy Sunday all, I have had a lovely busy day and have only finally got around to blogging this evening. Today's post is about where I stash my nail polishes. They are currently stored in a wire basket that I think is meant for eggs :) but my nail polishes look so much better in it!!

It holds a lot but I have reduced my collection drastically due to them being old and the consistency being off or I just don't like the shade anymore. I picked up the basket from good ol' TK Maxx for about £5.

I hold my nail tools in a Mac makeup bag which i also place inside the basket and transport the whole thing around the flat. My stash can be found in the kitchen, in the sitting room, on a shelf or on the table! :)

Nail tools include, metal tools, nail files, base & top coats, nail art, nail polish remover etc. My current wish list as far as tools go is the 'Leighton Denny' crystal nail file and the'OPI' nail envy, I feel like my nails always break as I haven't really invested in a good quality nail file which really doesn't make sense.

I am currently loving almost black nail shades, some of my favourites are:

Nails Inc'Dover St market'
Barry M'Vivid Purple'
Zoya 'Jem'
Revlon'Facets of Fuchsia'
Orly'Fowl Play'
Essie'Little Brown Dress'
Nails Inc'Victoria'
Orly'Naughty'
Nails Inc'Motcomb St'
Nails Inc'Chesham Place'

How do you store your nail products and what polishes are your current favourites?

Balm Cleansing!

It seems I have a new obsession with balm cleansers, and I am currently loving the REN'Rosa Centifolia' cleansing balm. Why? Because I actually feel like it's clearing up my skin whilst controlling my oily t-zone. I have watched and read 'Caroline Hirons' (skincare expert) bang on about avoiding foam cleansers because I quote: 'To get foam you need to use a surfactant - and a surfactant turns your skin alkaline. Alkaline skin is like a petri dish for bacteria'. Seems crazy right? Particularly when foaming cleansers are specifically targeted for oily skin. I know balm cleansing seems like a hassle as you have to stand there rubbing it in, but trust me it's worth it!

The first balm cleanser I tried was years back and it was the Liz Earle 'Cleanse & polish'which seemed lovely although it was causing some sort of mild rash and I didn't continue using it. I took this REN balm cleanser on holiday with me to Antalya, but avoided using it as I felt like I was wiping my tan away (insert laughing crying emoji here) There's also the misconception that your adding oil to your skin is going to make you more oily. Infact no, clearly your skin doesn't have enough oil and works overtime to produce more oil thus making your skin oily.

I have been using the REN cleansing balm for almost a month now, day and night on dry skin and removing with a damp hot 100% cotton crochet pad or a flannel, my skin is so much smoother, the small white bumps on my cheeks have almost disappeared, they have reduced drastically and I can't wait to see the results after using this method of cleansing long term.

The cleanser is very thick in texture infused with natural oils and rose oil being the scent which is most detectable, there are no parabens, sulphates and fragrances so can be used with an eased mind.

See REN website for more info. Link!

Lesson for the day, ditch those foam cleansers! Thanks caroline.

Storage Sunday - Arts and Craft Supplies

Craft supplies and anything fiddly always seem to end up lost or forgotten. Now that I have a budding artistic toddler on my hands I have even more bits and bobs to store. The best method I have found for practical and efficient storage are these plastic hanging pockets.

It has 20 pockets and holds so much stuff and everything is clearly on display and I can find what I am looking for extremely quickly. I store mine on the inside of my craft cupboard door. I purchased this organiser from amazon for £8.99. A total bargain, I am slightly addicted to the amazon app on my phone and get 'click' happy more often than I should. (No I'm not paid by amazon, but I wish I was!)

I store - glue, pipe cleaners, feathers, foam, felt stickers, pens, toys, and everything else I need for easy access.

How do you store your Arty bits?

A little pampering...

It's not often this busy mama gets a minute to do some pampering but when I do (like today) here's how the routine usually goes..

I will steam my face with a bowl of hot water and a couple of drops of Neal's Yard essential oils and a towel over my head to open up my pores. Then exfoliate, I usually use a chemical one with lactic acid, then clean out those pores with a clay face mask and finally nourish with some oil.

REN Glycolactic Mask is a renewal peel mask (it's not a peel off mask) it chemically exfoliates the skin with fruit acids which is aims to brighten and renew the skin. I leave it on for about 10 minutes and it smells like citrus fruits and leaves my skin feeling super soft afterwards, I don't experience any redness after however I suspect some people might. I like it best when applied overnight to wake up to gorgeous skin. It contains lots of lactic acid which you can imitate at home with applying lemon directly to your skin which I have done before. But this mask is just special and I would rather apply this!

Boots Botanics Clay Mask is the only clay mask i use, it doesn't leave my skin feeling tight or dry after but leaves it looking "clean' and makes me feel like I have had a real pamper treatment, you haven't had a pamper treatment if you don't have green stuff on your face which stops you from smiling for 10 minutes!

Caudelie Divine Oil is a serious must have. I use this baby on my face and hair. It contains lots of nourishing oils like grape, hibiscus, argan and sesame oils. The best thing about it is that it's a dry oil, it doesn't leave your face or hair greasy afterwards. It also comes in a spray bottle which is easy and hygienic application.

What are your favourite pampering products?

Today was a good day, I actually went shopping alone whilst my mama was looking after Esra, I did a trip to Primark to stock up on some pi's for Esra and me and also came home with these great beauty bits for moi...

I have had my eye on a few 'Real Techniques'brushes and caved in today as they were on offer (buy 1 get 1 half price) so they cost me £15 for both. I initially dismissed these brushes when they first launched because lets face it I have enough brushes to cater for about 20 people so didn't feel I needed these in my collection. However, I am sick and tired of picking off brush hairs from my face, Mac and Sigma brushes shed like crazy so I decided it was time for some soft synthetic brushes.

I opted for the 'Blush brush' which I plan on using for powder and bronzer and the 'Expert face brush'which I plan on using for liquid foundation.

I needed the'expert face brush' as I used to enjoy using the Sigma F80 brush and also the'Everyday Minerals flat top kabuki' until they both fell apart on me. The other brushes from the sigma range are too fat and not that great. I also used to love the 'Mac 187' and the sigma dupe, but they shed like crazy and I finally binned both as they were causing more bad then good. I think I want the real techniques stippling brush too!

I also popped to 'Butlers'my favourite homeware shop in Angel Islington and scored these 2 candle holders. They have now happily become my brush holders and they were only £2.99 each.

I also went to H&M as they were having a small home are sale, I got a couple of cushion covers and a blanket, but I'm most excited about the nail polishes I purchased. They were cleverly placed on a stand near the tills and I saw them from the corner of my eye, I had to look twice and quickly proceeded to add them to my basket. The 3d holographic glitter just screamed at me, and the gold glitter with white speckles seemed festive and fit for December and now I can't wait to paint my nails.

I also spied the'Joy to the girls' eye shadow palette by 'Too Faced' in Boots and now I feel like I can't sleep if I don't own it. *Oh dear*

What have you been buying lately and what's your favourite glitter polish for the festive season?

Educational Toddler Toys

Hello all, I wanted to check in with a toddler post as I am obsessed with finding Esra engaging educational toys as I am finding my latest favourite shade of lipstick.

I did a post a while back on'Wooden baby toys'and now it's time for the toddler version!

I store most her toys in a cupboard and pick a few out the night before to help keep her busy for the next day. I am very much intrigued by the Montessori method but also like the idea of some free choice. I like rotating toys so they don't get boring and can be used as a reward system.  I also make up a lot of my own activities and games but it's also nice to have the'ready made' toys too.  Esra loves arts & crafts, sensory play, musical instruments, she also loves smelling different scents and does a lot of dancing and prancing around in tutus whilst cooking in her play kitchen. However, she gets very excited about toys just like all children. I purchase most on amazon and add them to my wish list then purchase when they go on sale. I am an amazon app addict, help me please!

Here are mine and Esra's current picks for toddlers...

Peg Puzzle Boards

Alphabet, number and animal peg puzzle from Sainsburys.
Eric Carle puzzle from 'Natural History Museum' also available HERE.

These are great to help with early letter, number, colour and object recognition, we've had these since she was about 11months, but she still uses them at 25months. She can place all of them correctly with no help and makes the animal sounds and screams the colours out. It's very important to try and get your toddler to talk about the puzzle and ask her questions to help with her speech. I love the Sainsburys puzzles as they were about £3, Melissa & Doug also do some superb ones but it's good to check your local supermarket for cheaper options - Asda do some great ones too.

Jigsaw Puzzles

ABC and Noah's Ark puzzle from Marks & Spencers

Ok so, jigsaw puzzles are my latest craze, Esra's first "real" non peg board puzzle was the fairy set which she completes confidently on her own as they are 2 and 3 piece puzzles. The M&S ones we do together and they are such great quality, very sturdy and colourful. I have just ordered some more tonight as they are all on sale! Orchard Toys have some lovely puzzles and I have several more on my list. Jigsaw puzzles are great for brain training and also lots of fun, they can be played like a game taking turns or left independently to help build confidence. It's best to start with smaller pieced puzzles to help the child feel a sense of achievement when completed. Esra also thought of a new game where once the puzzle is completed it's pushes under the sofa to hide and mummy has to find it. :) Anyway so, puzzles puzzles puzzles all the way. If you are stuck for a gift buy a puzzle!

More Wooden Puzzles...

Dinosaur jigsaw puzzles 'Charity shop find' but it's by the Natural History Museum
Counting Dog puzzle from a book shop

The clock is amazing, Esra is learning her shapes and colours and can confidently put them all back in there places. It's a toy that will grow with her and help her to tell the time when she is a bit older. The bear puzzle is SO entertaining, she tells me the bears are cold and then dresses them up over and over again. The first day she got it she played with it for AGES, it also helps to recognise emotions and how to dress according to the weather - big thumbs up. The Dinosaur number puzzles where such a great find from the charity shop, I paid about £3 for it and it's just perfect to help with counting whilst putting the jigsaw together which she can all do independently.

Games

Shopping List& Spotty Dog Game by Orchard Toys
Crazy Characters Game from Marks & Spencers.

Easy games to help with turn taking is so important, I am obsessed with Orchard Toys, they make the best puzzles and games and provide such good fun for toddlers, everything is well made and sturdy and will last for years. These games are invaluable when it comes to brain training, they help with memory, counting, and recognition and much more! I picked up the spotty dog game from a charity shop for £1.95, gave them a wipe and they are as good as new. I have my eye on the alphabet lotto, once upon  time dominos and shape snap - it's seriously addictive. The character match game is also fun and can also be used just as a puzzle.

Lacing Toys

Clothes line beading set by Voila

These types of toys really help with fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.  I purchased the lacing cards for our flight journey in September, she can't quite do them on her own yet but she enjoys the animals and colours and really does her best. I picked up the voila set from TKMaxx as she can lace them onto the string or wooden stick which is easier and even dress them up. We also thread pasta and beads from my jewellery kit so don't think you HAVE to buy toys as most things can be DIY'd.

Leapfrog Toys

The laptop was for her 2nd birthday and she quickly proceeds to take it out when mama is on hers. The great thing about Leapfrog toys is you can personalise them, so the laptop says "hello Esra"and today she was singing with violet saying "I love you Esra" which is so cute. The dinosaur was for her 1st birthday and she still uses it, it helps with letter and colour recognition and also singing :) All of the Leapforg toys are fantastic and I'm sure we will invest in more as she gets older. There's a phonics set which I have my eye on!

Flash Cards

Cardboard first words and phonics Flash cards by Usbourne.
Turkish/English flashcards from Amazon - no longer listed :(
Counting cards for 99p from a bookshop
Foam Letters £3 from Sainsburys.

I started with the flashcards since she was a baby, I try to teach her everything in Turkish first as well as English. Usbourne do a great selection and are very appealing to young children. The counting cards are superb and have colourful objects on the reverse and Esra loves organising them and laying them out too! :) I try to use the foam letters to help with phonics and try to get her to match them up which doesn't always go down well, but we use them as bath toys too and are a great learning aid.

Lego and other blocks!

Wooden alphabet blocks from pound land.

Lego lego lego, basically my favourite childhood toy. I used to play with it for hours and knew Esra had to have some. Duplo is slightly larger than regular sized lego and perfect for toddler hands. They help with fine motor skills, hand eye coordination and construction skills. We use them to make shapes, learn numbers and colours and just general imaginative play. Just as an FYI I got the train for £8.67 and the pink brick box for £5.49 in an amazon flash sale, so it's worth keeping an eye on things if you are not desperate. I use the app and it's basically an addiction! The wooden blocks were a great find from pound land and in stores now, I picked up 2 packs to have all letters of the alphabet. they have pictures on them too and make great conversational toys as well as for imaginative play. Just get some blocks, any blocks! We still use our wooden blocks from our I'm Toy walkerwhich is another hit.

Pattern Blocks and Shape Stacker

The pattern blocks have been on my wish list for ages, I LOVE the concept but wouldn't recommend this particular one as the paint on it has rubbed off drastically, 'Learning resources' do a similar version and looks just as good but it's plastic. This is a fantastic educational toy and one that encourages pattern matching and mathematical skills, it helps teach symmetry and colour recognition and the blocks can also be used individually for imaginative pictures. The stackers is also great, we have had this for ages now and it's one that has grown with her, it has a puzzle element and can be used to help recognise colours, shapes and even sizes, another must have for your toddler!

Super Sorting Pie

Sorting pie by Learning resources.

If you buy one toddler toy make it this one. It's seriously the best educational toy - you can use it to sort colours, numbers and shapes. You can use it for counting to help teach maths, bake the pie in a play kitchen and even pretend to sell the fruit pieces as sweets. it also comes with tongs so helps with fine motor skills and hand eye coordination and you can use it like a game playing in turns to see who can place there fruits in the corresponding places first. A definite must have!! Learning resources have such great quality toys, the fruits in this are made from heavy rubber and not cheap light plastic, I have so many other items on the wish list but I must calm down! :)

Aquadoodle Drawing

Aquaddoodle drawing mat by Tomy

The drawing mat is basically activated by water, it comes with a pen that you fill and then you can draw draw draw. Whoever invented this is a genius, it's mess free and I can quickly pass this to Esra and she will get busy. Once the water on the mat dries it disappears and you can start again. We also use this to splash water on and trickle the water like raindrops to make pretty shapes and even splash our hands in water to make hand prints. The possibilities are endless and a great toy to take around with you when visiting a friend as it has no mess and folds really small. Obviously theres nothing like pen and paper but this is a great alternative if you don't want to find colourful scribbles on your walls. I have also seen some people hang this on the wall to let children draw standing up. I got this for £10 in the sale, so again peeps watch those items!

That's a wrap - and breathe!

FYI I am not affiliated with the brands mentioned and I'm not paid by amazon to promote anything although that would be nice, get on it amazon email me yeah *wink wink* no seriously this is an honest shopaholic mamas opinion as always. I changed my hair again *covers face* speak soon and I will be doing the play kitchen DIY post soon too!

DIY Lemon Sugar Scrub - a last minute gift idea

$

I'm always in the kitchen throwing random concoctions together, and today I decided to make myself a scrub as I had ran out and forgot to purchase. I was thinking that it would be a great last minute gift idea paired with some flannels and a box of chocolates and wanted to share.

Ingredients

Coconut oil
Lemons
Sugar
Honey
Lavender essential oil

I mixed up my coconut oil first, I used the 'Nutiva' organic extra virgin, added the juice of 1 lemon, added a spoonful of honey, and added sugar until it was the consistency I wanted. I then added a few drops of lavender essential oil to help preserve it and for a stronger scent.

You can use whatever oils you have at home, olive oil, almond oil, avocado oil will also work great too, you could use oranges instead of lemons and add cinnamon or other spices, the possibilities are basically endless.

I love home made skin care and am always slathering some kind of fruit on my face. This scrub can be used on the face, body, hands and feet. The lemon has lactic acid so perfect for renewing the surface, the sugar I used was fine granulated sugar so it's extremely gentle, it smells very citrusy and amazing and I'm sure it would be a treat to use for everyone. The coconut oil and honey adds extra moisture and feels great on the skin. I added stickers from 'Butlers' which are for jam but fit for this purpose, threw on some twine and a lollipop stick as a spatula. I always keep empty jars and this was a mini Douwe Egberts coffee jar.

Go on, get creating your own skincare, sometimes I wonder why I even buy any it's so much nicer homemade and natural.

Will you be making any DIY gifts this year?

We are moving house!*happy dance*

Please excuse my absence and lack of posts lately, we are currently in the process of moving and I haven't had much time to think or even brush my hair. We have been stripping wallpaper, about 5 layers in Esra's room. Seriously, who puts wallpaper on top of wallpaper? Anyway, Yes Esra will finally have her own room, it has been such a struggle sharing but I am so thankful and blessed that she will finally have her own space. For now, it's energy drinks and a whole lot of junk food, hence why my food diary has stopped now too.

Speak soon. xXx

Good morning and happy Thursday! Wow it has been ages since I last blogged, we are now pretty much settled into our new place minus the dining table, doors, my dressing table and tiles in the bathroom.... Errr ok we still have a lot to do but it's looking pretty good.

Yesterday I treated myself to a few things that I'm excited about so naturally I had to share!

  • KIEHL'S Creamy Eye Treatment - I just love the texture of this, it's basically one of the most hydrating eye creams on the market, it has a thick but smooth consistency and has a slight sheen finish which I love. It's enriched with avocado oil and will enable my concealer literally glide on. I aim to use this mainly in the mornings as I am using a different eye cream at night which is more of an anti ageing one.
  • AVENE Thermal Spring Water - I go through bottles of this stuff like it nobodys business. I use it to freshen up during the day particularly when I need a little wake me up, I use it like a toner to mist over my face (although now the SA at Kiehl's made me want their calendula toner) I also use it after my makeup almost like a setting spray when I am out of Mac fix+.
  • THE BODY SHOP Mango Body Butter - I love body butters and the body shop ones have always been my favourite, I used them throughout my pregnancy and love all the different scents. Mango has always been high up there scent wise and yesterday I managed to grab the body butter, shower gel and perfume all for £15 as they had some kind of special offer.
  • BENEFIT Fake Up Concealer (Shade 02)- I LOVE love love this, it's my second tube and I was scraping the remainder of the last tube with a brush and usually I'm quick to toss products. This concealer has a balm and an extremely creamy and hydrating texture that manages to last all day without creasing.
  • REAL TECHNIQUES Miracle Complexion Sponge - I have wanted to try this for ages but it's always been out of stock but I finally got it yesterday *happy dance* I have never tried the 'Beauty Blender' as I find the price ridiculously high for a sponge, but have tried a dupe version in the past by 'Cosmopolitan' which I really enjoyed. The shape of this RT one really excites me and I'm really looking forward to trying this baby on my face. The idea is to wet the sponge then bounce/stipple your base to create a airbrushed dewy finish and use the different angles to get different finishes.

The sponge up close...

Micro Bead Hair Extensions!

$
0
0
Good Morning all, I'm coming at you this morning with my new longer hair! *happy dance*

I was with a friend last week and she convinced me very easily that I needed longer hair, I had been thinking about it for a while as my hair is in an'in-between'shoulder length style which I have been HATING, and to top it off, the colour was pulling red as I had recently dyed it with a supposed 'chocolate brown' *side eye*. I was either going to chop my hair or elongate my locks and yesterday  was the day. I really did enjoy having 'sew in hair extensions' in the past but needed a new method which lasted longer. I have about 5 different types of'clip ins'at home which never get any love whatsoever, that feeling of a clip in coming out? no bueno.

I went for the 'micro bead' method which attaches the extension to your own hair via looping it through and then clamping it shut. My hairdresser which is also a close friend said that the beads vary, and she used the beads which has silicone on the inside to protect the natural hair follicle and metal on the outside to prevent rust. This type of extension is supposed to be non damaging to the hair and very long lasting if you take good care of it.

She used 100 micro bead  extensions which is 3/4 of a set, they are mainly placed on the back and scattered around the sides. She also dyed my hair a dark ash brown to counteract the redness which is basically my natural hair colour so it will be pretty low maintenance! The bonds aren't visible and I can have my hair out, pulled back or even half up half down and still conceal everything.

The whole process took about half a day but it only took about an hour and a half to attach the actual microbeads which was so quick as I was expecting to sit there for hours, luckily my friend is a pro and has been doing this for years and actually training to be a teacher so it really made my mind at ease. She is a mobile hairdresser based in London so she came to my house and we was able to chill and chat and enjoy the whole process. I couldn't imagine taking Esra with me to a salon and sitting there so this way she was able to take an afternoon nap whilst we got busy. The beads are placed like brickwork and scattered so the result is natural and it all kind of blends in. I was a little worried initially as I didn't want scraggly extensions and was aiming for a natural result which is what I got. We decided not to add choppy layers for now and only added long layers at the front, we will however reevaluate soon to see if I change my mind. If you look carefully you can see some of my top layers from my natural hair are visible but you will only be able to tell if I wear my hair dead straight and I plan on wearing them wavy most of the time. I shall see how I get on, right now I can't wait for boho braids! :) However, I do think that layering it a little more will give a more voluminous effect when curled, I will do another update if I change them.

These extensions can last between 6-12months, depending on how you take care of it, this also heavily relies upon the hair, mine was'Mixed Eastern European' hair which blends in with my own perfectly as the texture is exactly the same as mine. It also depends on how the extension is applied, like if it's positioned correctly and the correct use of beads. You also have to take very good care of it, and it's recommended you sleep with it in a braid to prevent tangling. You also have to be careful with heat damage and be careful not to apply direct heat to the bonds as the keratin will melt off. I may need to freshen it up in a couple of months but I will see how I get on depending on my regrowth. This is actually a great way to grow out my hair as I can enjoy the process along the way. As for now, apparently I should expect a week of feeling uncomfortable as I need to get used to the extra weight in my hair, but I'm sure I will be fine. They don't feel half as uncomfortable as the first day I got the sew ins done. I will definitely do an update on how I'm caring for my hair, and a full on review once I have them removed whenever that may be!

What are your thoughts on'micro bead' hair extensions? Would you do it? I'm in LOVE, excuse me whilst I do a little dance and enjoy my hair!

DIY - De-Puffing Coffee Face Mask

$

Good morning and happy Friday! Tonight is 'date night' and I want to share with you a mask I will be doing especially for today.

My face is particularly puffy in the mornings and sometimes throughout the day depending on what I eat. However, I have found a way to counteract this in a simple and effective way containing only 2 ingredients.

Caffeine, one of the hottest ingredients in skincare targets tired eyes and faces and I am a bit tired of people trying to sell me products which contain caffeine when it's easily available from the comfort of your own home. Why not just slap the caffeine in this case coffee which contains high does of it directly on to your face?!

Well me and my bright ideas, I mixed a spoonful of coffee with a little bit of hot water to form a paste, left it to cool and voila, a mask was born. I have seen other similar coffee masks and you can do it any way as long as coffee is the main ingredient, but the way I do it definitely has impressive effects.

Caffeine works as an anti inflammatory and has the ability to de-puff swollen skin. It also has the benefit of tightening the skin and reducing under eye circles which is why so many skin care brands contain the ingredient. Caffeine is also very easily absorbed into the skin so the results are almost instant.

I apply the mask in the mornings and leave to settle for about 20 minutes, the tightening sensation is incredible and well worth a shot, it definitely wakes you up. Once I wash the mask off, the puffiness on my cheekbones and eye area have disappeared as my skin has tightened and brightened and overall I look more awake and energised. You can also add honey, milk and even coffee grounds to achieve different results.

The best thing about this mask is it's free and fool proof and don't worry it doesn't stain the face! I definitely recommend this to all the mamas and early starters or if you have a special event and want your skin to look alive!

What are some of your favourite DIY face masks?

Loving & Hating...

Good morning all, long time no speak... Don't ask! But I'm back!

Lately I have really been into my neutrals, and haven't fully got into the Spring mood, I'm hoping next month will change that! However, there have been some standout items that need some praise!

  • Bobbi Brown 'Bone' Eyeshadow - This is the perfect 'I'm in a rush shade' as all I do is sweep it all over my lid and it's done. It has a natural brightening effect and is great for everyday.
  • Mac 'Pure Zen' Lipstick - I'm in love with this lipstick, I got quite a few lipsticks this month and this was the one that wowed me, even though I probably have a million different nudes, there's something about finding the next best nude shade. It's the perfect milky peach that has just enough pigment to suit m complexion, it's on the same wavelength as'Hue'just much peachier. An honourable mention goes to'Rebel'as I wore that a few days in a row just dabbed on my lips with lip balm.
  • Bourjois CC Cream - This colour correcting cream is perfect for everyday, it has a light liquid texture that gives a semi matte sheen. I apply this with a wet sponge as I got the darkest shade which was a shade too dark for me, so using a wet sponge helps sheer it out and blends into my skin perfectly or I mix a little bit with my moisturiser for an even lighter finish. The coverage is buildable and lasts almost the whole day on my normal/oily t zone skin.
  • Bare Minerals'Medium Beige' Foundation - I have rediscovered my love for mineral foundation, I forgot how flawless it makes my skin look and for some reason it gives much more coverage than I always expect. I use it on days where I am feeling oily or when I want a flawless finish.
  • Urban Decay 'Walk of Shame'Lipgloss - This is a neutral nude that is ever so smooth, it glides on so easily, isn't sticky and layers nicely over 'Pure Zen' lipstick. What more does one want from a gloss? Oh and I like the 'flunk' noise it makes when you open and close the lid.*weird*
  • Mac 'Well Dressed'Blush - This is probably my favourite'go to' pink blush, I have used it for years and it never fails me. It applies the perfect amount of colour in a couple of sweeps, it's quite sheer so you really need to build it up if you want it to be more vivid. I personally, prefer the natural finish so the lighter the better for me. I don't really like my cheeks looking too pink and 'Well Dressed'is the perfect balance with it's cool pale pink undertones.

However it's not all good! I have a couple of products I have been HATING!
  1. No7 Stay Perfect Macara (Gold Tube) - OMG this is the worst mascara ever, it has the thinnest wand which I'm not going to lie separates the lashes nicely, but oh boy when you come to remove it, it's the worst, I lost so many of my lashes regardless of what eye makeup remover I used. I officially hate all fibre mascaras!! The lashes on my left eye are uneven and I have started using'Li Lash'again to remedy the problem.
  2. Real Techniques Miracle complexion Sponge - Ok so, there's so much hype on this, and my experience has been awful. My sponge after a few uses has holes in it, it won't return to it's shape and the stains don't wash out properly. I will put my hands up and say I don't wash it immediately after use as I usually have a toddler wrapped around my legs so I leave it for later. But regardless, I'm not a happy bunny. However, it was a dream to use it before it got damaged as it particularly applied concealer beautifully. I have however, now resorted to the cheaper multipack sponges and just use them once and bin them which works out to be more effective and hygienic.
Have you tried any of the products mentioned and is there any products you are hating recently?

Toddler crochet & a peek at Esra's room!

Happy Saturday!

Last night I finished a cushion I was working on and wanted to share...

I used the popcorn stitch and various colours, I had already made her a tiny version and just enlarged it. I love how it brings out all of the colours in her room.

I have placed the Ikea Rast chest of drawers beside her bed as a bedside table, I painted it with Wickes'Damsel Chic'chalk paint and combined it with white.

I used a mixture of my scrap yarns for the cushion all of which were 100% cotton.

I LOVE the 'Pirum Parum' pear poster and knew I wanted it for Esra's room ages ago, I have used and Ikea'Ribba' frame for it. The'Maileg'bunnies are so beautiful and perfect for any little girls room. I added the neon yellow rabbit from 'Zara home' for a pop of colour and for a fresh modern feel. There's also a little'Maileg'mouse sitting in a yarn candle holder I picked up from'TK Maxx', it's so cute and a great way to bring more grey into the room.

The small suitcases are by'Sasse & Belle'which I purchased from Amazon, I love the colours and ditsy feminine print. We have'Play Doh' stored in the bottom, wooden pattern blocks in the middle and sponge alphabet letters on the top. Talk about pretty toy storage!

Also from 'Sasse & Belle' I got the heart bunting that I have hung across the room to have some continuity in the room. Her pink floral lamp shade was a complete bargain from Amazon, it gives off a sweet pink glow at night and Esra is completely and utterly obsessed with it. I handmade her pom pom garland that sits nicely on top of the poster, I love the pops of colour against the grey!

And some more toddler crochet for you! I made a couple of these baskets and one is hanging on a knob, I combined 2 yarns (a pink & grey) to form a thicker strand and used a 6mm hook to single crochet the basket. I started off with 2chains, and SC 10 into the first loop, then 2SC into each loop, then I did 1SC, 2SC, 1SC, 2SC etc in the next round then 1,1,2,11 and then you enlarge accordingly I don't even think I'm making sense, but you enlarge your circle until you have the desired base size then single crochet all the way round about 15-20 times  and that gives you the basket, I finished off with SS all the way round to have a sturdy top and then I made a little loop.

And now this bunny sits perfectly inside!

Well that's it for now, but I am thinking of making a YouTube room tour video as I can explain myself properly, I also took a recording of the 'before' so it will be fun to compare! On the other side of her room is the play area, and on the side we have a reading area. It's almost done, and the things that are left are her blinds, her closet door and a few other bits and pieces.

Speak soon, and enjoy your weekend! xXx

Travelling with toddler...

Hello!*blows dust off the keyboard* I am here, I have been hibernating but today I decided to actually blog... *happy dance* I did one of these mummy travel posts last year so decided it was only fair if I did one this year too.

We are going on holiday to Egypt for 2 weeks and Esra will be 3 at the end of next month (seriously where did the time go?) and I have been in a bit of a panic trying to organise and get things prepared. Last year was a complete success, I had a happy toddler and she was entertained the whole time, but now that she is older it's a whole new ball game. Click HERE to see what I took with me for my almost 2 year old last year.

This year, I have broken it down to 3 categories: Beach, Flight & Evening ActivitiesHere is what I am taking....

This is everything!!

BEACH

Ok so, obviously the usual bucket, spade and shovels. I am also taking a "cooking" set that I picked up from the pound shop, I figured sand cooking would be entertaining! I am also taking silicone cupcake cases, candles and embellishments to make sand cupcakes which I know she will love as we always make them with play doh! Ice cream cones and scoop to make sand cones, extra bowl and cups for sandcastles, windmills for the sandcastles instead of flags. 'Melissa and Doug' butterfly binoculars, a toy camera which was a freebie from a magazine, a ball, water guns and a 'Pinypon' mermaid set.

I will not be giving all of these to her on the same day, I will try and spread them out and gift her the mermaids for good behaviour probably after a week. The 'Pinypon' set is adorable, the mermaids have interchangeable pieces and you can flip their heads the other way round and change their expression and store things in there head! Sounds crazy but cool for a toddler!! Also the idea for the beach was to keep it cheap and cheerful as stuff ALWAYS goes missing!
We are also taking an inflatable pool with a shade for the beach, a manta ray ride on, pool ring, arm bands, beach ball and a kite! Sounds like a lot of stuff but it's probably just right!

FLIGHT

The Trunki is coming with us once again as it's the best toddler luggage ever! It will be Esra's carry on flight activity bag and I think I have packed it strategically so this system should work well.

I have put another drawstring bag inside filled with activities so that I am not rummaging for things and I can just pull it out once we are in the air. The other side of the Trunki has a blanket, 2 changes of clothes, a couple of pull ups even though she is potty trained, iPad, iPad stand, headphones, her beloved teddy that she drags everywhere and a new toy.

The new toy is a mermaid 'Lalaoopsie' and I know she's going to love it, this will be handed to her once we get to the airport for good behaviour and to celebrate that we are going on holiday!

The 'Peppa pig'drawstring bag houses all of these lovely things that I have spent ages planning! Most of the things you see here are new so it will all be exciting for her. Here's whats inside;

  • Book - 1001 Things to spot in the sea
  • Book - The Singing Mermaid
  • Book - Maisy's Pool
  • Book - Goodnight Moon
  • Book - There's a Hippopotamus on the roof eating cake.
  • Book - Peppa Pig 'Let's Go'
  • Usbourne Holiday Sticker Book
  • Peppa Pig Sticker books X2
  • Stickers - (Galt sticker book, Frozen stickers & Peppa Pig stickers)
  • Colouring pages, notebook & clickable colour changing pen
  • Melissa & Doug Princess crayon set
  • Lalaloopsy Gel stickers in tin
  • Peppa Pig puzzle
  • 'Mudpuppy' magnetic mermaid dress up
  • Horse lacing card
  • Felt button lacing busy bag
  • Gel clings for window
  • Small toys

The toys are in this little mermaid zipper bag, they are all small and perfect for role play. All of the babies are new and she has never seen them so she will definitely be excited and enjoy them. The will be wrapped up and I will hand one over to her every so often. The babies are by 'Yogurtini' and they are also scented, I picked them up from Argos on sale for £3.99 from £9.99 for a pack of 3 and I got 3 sets so there is plenty to keep her busy. There are also a couple of her ponies, a table, a swing and a car for some good times on the plane!

EVENING ACTIVITIES

So the evenings are quite difficult and I will rely on the iPad as much as I can as it works, but for some unplugged play we need activities! I have kept them all as compact as can be. Everything apart from the activity books fits neatly inside this zipper bag. The small tin houses lego which will be perfect for late evening chilling, I found this idea on pinterest, and it's definitely a good one.

We have more sticker books, Peppa Pig colouring pages, painting with water, mermaid scene set, Egyptian colouring book & a couple of magazines with loads of freebies. I have also included 3 puzzles, finger puppets, more stickers, balloons, glow sticks, bubbles, gel clings, a caterpillar tin game and a few busy bags.

The glow sticks will be amazing in the evenings!

SNACKS

If you are wondering where the snacks be at.... the snacks are in this bag and daddy will be in charge of them. The bag is by'dotcomgiftshop' but I got it from Sainsburys for £3.

I have been collecting snacks for a week now, I have a mix of healthy and non healthy because you gotta do what you gotta do! I have however split up gummy bears into small portions with grip seal bags so that at least I have some control. I managed to find some organic lollipops that are gelatine free and vegan by Biona, All the snacks pictured are halal and suitable for vegetarians,

Wow, that seems like a lot doesn't it?! Well, I would rather be the Mary Poppins mama constantly bringing "stuff" out of my bag than dealing with an unhappy toddler on an airplane. If there are other toddlers round us they will get stickers and lollipops too, happy toddler = happy mummy.

So do you think I will get a chance to read my book? :)

What would you take on a 2 week beach holiday with a toddler? Anything I missed?

Egypt, Hurghada....

We are back!! 2 weeks with the sun, sea and sand have been amazing!!

We stayed at 'Sunrise Royal Makadi Bay'resort in Hurghada which was about a 6 hour flight from London, Gatwick. Esra was entertained throughout the flight thanks to my pre planning! It was a 5 star, all inclusive resort and about 30 minutes drive from Hurghada airport.

Egypt is beautiful but it's definitely a country you have to do your research on beforehand as we got ripped off with our visas literally as soon as we stepped foot onto Egyptian land. So take note people, if you go to Hurghada airport, be sure to get your visas from the bank and not the folk who will run up to you trying to seem helpful. The food at the hotel was lovely but not always up to standard, so we ended up going to the a la carte restaurants with the Italian and Mexican being our favourites. The animation team were amazing and the hotel had great customer service skills and is a resort that I would recommend and one that I would consider revisiting. I would also recommend getting 'red flags' for the beach as it means 'do not disturb' to stop sellers coming up to you whilst you are trying to relax. With all of the negative bits over, the positives definitely outweighed them. The red sea is so beautiful and clear, you can see fishes swimming right up to your feet and it feels incredibly relaxing to swim in the ocean and listen to the waves. The sea is extremely salty and it really helped clear up my skin which was an extra bonus. The heat was incredibly hot, almost 40 degrees yet the heat felt so dry and there is always some sort of breeze. My hair didn't do the 'Monica effect' and always seemed to cooperate which was an even bigger bonus! Esra had so much fun playing, dancing and eating way too much pink ice cream. I loved having shisha in the evenings and working on my tan! :)

The Egyptian sunrise when I went to the beach to reserve our seats. :)

We loaded up on SPF 50 for the first few days and then dropped to 30 and slightly lower the last few days. I also used a tan accelerator which enabled me to get a quick deep golden bronze tan which I will do a review on next. Esra napped on the beach twice and we ended up going to the room after lunch as the sun was so draining we all needed naps.

Vesilli, the camel was on the beach everyday carrying tourists up and down. Esra loved him and so did I. Camels are so incredibly charming and cute!

My little beach baby!

I loved wearing a bright lip for the evenings and I mostly wore Mac 'Ririwoo' and'Lady Danger'which were perfect for a statement lip. I also did lots of golden smokey eyes with nude lips.

LIPS: 'Lady Danger' with Mac'Cherry' lipliner under it.
FACE: Maybelline FIT ME foundation mixed with moisturiser
CONCEALER: YSL Touche Eclat
CHEEKS: Sleek 'Medium' Contour Kit
EYES: Mac'Coffee' eyeliner,'Texture' e/s and Smashbox mascara.

We also had the best family photoshoot and here's a few shots!!

Egypt thank you for being so amazing!!!
Have you been to Egypt? If so, what was your experience...

Zhuzch! The Tan Accelerator...

Ok, so I'm going to keep this short and sweet. This is a MUST have for busy sunbathers! It's the perfect product for when you want the quickest deepest tan in the shortest time possible. It's perfect for toddler mums who don't get to sunbathe for as long as they would like or if you are going on a short trip but want to accelerate your tan.

So the first thing I checked with this is if it contains self tan, and no it doesn't.

It comes in a spray bottle and the way to use it is to layer it over your desired SPF. Throughout the 2 weeks I started off with SPF30 over my body and 50 on my shoulders, then dropped to 15 and lower the last couple of days. I used SPF50 around my eyes constantly and used SPF30 & 15 on my face.

I'm not going to rant about sun damage but hey the body needs vitamin D too, but in moderation obviously.

I used the Zhuzh tan accelerator throughout the day spraying it over my SPF. It smells incredibly fresh and slightly floral with a cooling effect.

I didn't do as much sunbathing as I hoped for as it was so hot we only did the mornings, and rarely the afternoons but I still managed to get a deep tan thanks to the tan accelerator. There is no way i would have been this dark if I hadn't of used it. I also did not peel at all and my colour is even all over. *happy Carlton dance*

This product definitely gets a big thumbs up from me and it will be in my beach bag for all forthcoming holidays!! The bottle lasted me for 2 weeks and my husband even used some too after he saw that I was getting darker than him! :)

Price £19.99

Have you tried a tan accelerator before?

KIKO...

There was something that was missing in my life and that was a golden illuminator for my freshly tanned skin. Now that my skin is darker my existing highlighters just aren't cutting it. (What a great excuse for new makeup!)

Whilst shopping in Westfield last night I decided to pop into KIKO, the Italian brand of makeup that I had never tried. I like to play it quite safe and stick to my usual brands but the store was calling me. The price of the items shocked me a little, I thought it would have been more expensive which was a pleasant surprise. I got two eyeshadows (one which can be used as an illuminator/highlighter) and a fixing spray. The eyeshadows were £5.90 each and the spray was £7.90.

The pink toned one is a sparkle eyeshadow (Shade 403) which has a subtle rose gold sheen with glitter, the glitter is slightly chunky but still smooth, I wanted this for the centre of my lids to layer on top of different eyesahdows, the SA told me that it was more like a topcoat which I immediately agreed on.

The gold (shade 208) is a wet eyeshadow, apparently it's one of their best sellers particularly for darker skin tones as it can be used a highlighter. I have read on many blogs that it's a very close dupe for Mac's coveted'Whisper of gilt'extra dimension skin finish so I had to have it.

Both shades are beautiful and I can't wait to wear them!

I asked the SA what other bestsellers they had and she said that the fixing spray did really well which was consequently exactly what I needed. I'm going out this Saturday night so it will be exciting to see if it lives up to the claims. I tried it instore and it was a little like spraying hair spray on your face which was a bit weird, but we shall see!

I definitely would like to try more from the brand, do you have any favourites?

Block Heel Boots!

I am obsessed with my new peeptoe cutout block heel boots!

The block heel is so amazing, I have worn them out all night and they are incredibly comfortable which is definitely a must have for me, there's no way I can wear long thin heels and walk normally anymore.

These shoes are a steal at £49.99 from New Look Premium range and real leather! Grab these for cool Autumn nights to pair with skinny jeans, skater skirts, pencil skirts and dresses. I wore these on Saturday night with a black faux leather pencil skirt from River Island (see here) and a simple white vest and these shoes were on point! they look more expensive than they really are and will be a new staple in my wardrobe.

What type of heels are you loving lately?

I'm still here...

So slight hiccup on the technology front, my laptop wouldn't switch on for AGES but miraculously hubby managed to fix it today so this evening deserved a quick catchup post.

I have been SO extremely busy, I now have a 3 year old, can u believe Esra is 3?! It only seems like yesterday I was posting pregnancy pictures. Also to top it off, she started nursery a few days after her birthday so I have been all over the place. It's taken a while for her to settle in as she's quite shy but she now happily waves goodbye knowing that I will come back for her. Also as a side note I am not prepared to answer any nursery/pre school related questions for privacy reasons so please don't ask.

What else? I chopped off all of my hair, if you follow me on Instagram you will already know this but I just wanted a refreshing change, it's something I have wanted to do for a couple of years now and I'm so glad I took the plunge as it's been 3 weeks and I still LOVE it.

How's the new place coming along I hear you ask.... Well it's been crazy, we obviously still haven't finished but things are a lot more settled and everything has a place. I have been on an organising decluttering mission and have donated so much stuff it's unbelievable. But, it's all positive and a clear tidy home means a clear tidy mind. I am loving the minimalist style at the moment and am minimising anything and everything I can.

For my dressing table in the bedroom I went for the Ikea 'Malm'table and 'Alex' drawer unit. I don't have all of the accessories and styling pieces I want so it's bare at the moment and I'm a bit stuck.

I have also decided to use it as my blogging spot and the only way I can get wifi in our bedroom is if I strategically place the laptop on an angle on the edge. I clearly need a wifi booster in my life. I have happily been browsing pinterest whilst I have my tea seeking inspiration for my makeup/blogging table. I am also thinking to remove the glass top from the table as I just don't like the shine it gives, bad idea or not?

I got the 'Kolja'mirror and the light bulb strips to go on either side, but I'm not so sure if I want it like that now. Luckily we haven't had a chance to hang anything up so I'm taking it as a sign that maybe I am destined for a different mirror. This idea is all because we got new grey bedding and I have visions of a rose gold antique but modern mirror hanging. Grey, Rose gold and white and maybe a few hints of peach sounds lovely, what do you think? Shall I use this boring square mirror or get something different?

My makeup is all stored in the drawer, and it's working out nicely. In the tall'Alex' unit I keep skincare, nail care, body care, jewellery, magazines, travel bags, electricals, hair care and hair tools in that same order top to bottom. It's been a real lifesaver and I would own a few more if I could.

I still need a dressing table chair, I stole one of the dining room chairs for now but I need something nice, not the boring ones from ikea. I would also quite like to hang some shelves so I can place some photos and books. I also need a vase and some splashes of colour!!!

Need, need, need. Want, want, want..... It's never ending.
