FOTD & Hair update...

$

I dyed the roots of my hair again yesterday and my hair feels so fresh, it probably also has to do with the fact that I got a haircut too at the actual hairdressers and didn't trim it myself! :)

I used Boots 'Botanicals' bitter chocolate brown and I really like that it's a cool shade and doesn't pull any red through, definitely one to keep repurchasing.

Loving the layers, the shortest layer at the front comes halfway down to my chin when pulled straight. I went to my trusty Turkish hairdresser and he always does the best cut!

To get this soft layered look, I blowdried my hair and rolled up and pinned the sections as I was going along, I usually use velcro rollers too but had no time for that! The result was a soft and 'not too in your face' look.

I have been using L'oreal's 'Ever Riche' No Sulphates shampoo & conditioner for a few weeks now for very dry rebellious hair, and I LOVE it, it's been so gentle and cleansing on my hair and I love the condition that it's in. Usually, with ombre I would have opted for a purple shampoo as not to turn my hair colour brassy, but I haven't felt the need. I also like the fact that the shampoo froths up unlike other non sulphate shampoos. The conditioner is also great, detangles yet doesn't leave a layer of wax.

Although looking at this picture, perhaps I do need a purple conditioning treatment of some sort, maybe I will just use more of Lush's 'Marilyn' or get a toner from Sally's.

On my face I am wearing:

Garnier BB cream 'light'
Mac studio finish concealer 'NC30'
Soleil tan de channel
Sleek Luminous pressed powder '02'
No7 'Stay precice' felt tip eyeliner
No7 'Extravagent Volume' Mascara
Mac 'Cork' e/s in the crease
Mac 'Plink' lipstick

My makeup is always pretty simple and just enough as to not make me look tired! *pass me the coffee*

I need to do an update on my clean eating and weight loss *I will*, I now have more followers on that Instagram account than this actual blog! Thank you all so much for your continued support. I feel so much better within myself hence this 'face of the day'. I stopped taking pictures of myself for a while as I just didn't feel confident which in essence lead to the lack of updates on this blog.... Back in action baby and expect more outfit posts too! Woooo! :)

Official Food Diary 'Clean eating' FAQ's!

Thank you for all of your support on my Official Food Diary
I just wanted to answer a few frequently asked questions to clear the air.

How did you start eating clean and what research did you do?
The night before I was walking past the mirror on the way to the kitchen and noticed my arms were looking rather large and couldn't believe it was my arm. It looked so soft and out of shape. I did no research, and created '@officialfooddiary' on Instagram and promised myself to post everything I ate. At first I was going to keep it a secret but obviously couldn't keep it to myself. I luckily already had some knowledge on clean eating thanks to my husband who has been eating clean for years, but deep down inside nobody needs advice and we all really know what's good and bad for us. You don't need any books, just google something if you are confused.

How tall are you, and how much weight have you lost?
I'm 165cm (5'5") and my start weight was 145lbs, and I now weigh 126.6lbs and my goal weight is 120lbs (55kg) and to be toned. (All of this is in the profile) I'm on day 98 so it's been roughly 3 months since I started this journey.

Why do you eat so many eggs whites?
This has honestly been the most entertaining question. Eggs are one of the best sources of quality protein and also the cheapest. When eating just the whites, it's practically fat free, very low calorie and high in protein. It also keeps me full and therefore I have no problem eating as many as I wish.

Why don't you eat the yolks and what do you do with them?
I have nothing against egg yolks but choose to avoid them when trying to lose weight due to the calorie, fat, carb & cholesterol content. I do eat the yolks once in a while but generally avoid them as I'm trying to lose weight. Once I reach my goal weight, I'm sure I will sneak in the yolk a lot more as it's really good for you. Furthermore, I do not do anything special with the yolks, I do not secretly guzzle it down and turn it into a magic potion. I sometimes give the yolk to Esra, but generally bin them. I am aware you can buy egg whites in a carton, but I choose not to as they have been filtered, have other stuff in them and are more expensive.

Where can I buy chia seeds from?
I got mine from whole foods, but Holland & Barrett, and other organic shops sell them too, or if you want to entertain yourself google it.

Where can I buy Nakd bars from?
Tesco's, Sainsburys, Holland & Barrett and probably every organic/health shop you see.

Do you count calories?
No, as when I do I am left hungry. Although calorie counting does work so I would recommend it if your at a plateau. I do however count my carbs. I'm not strict about it but am conscious of what I eat and try to keep it between 70-100g per day.

Where did you buy your watch from and what model is it?
My 'heart rate monitor' watch is the 'POLAR FT7' and I purchased it from amazon. I'm sure you will find other places to buy it if you google it. The watch comes with a chest strap which monitors the heart rate and gives me an accurate reading of the calories I have burned according to the details I input on initial setup. The gender, age, height & weight is easy to adjust at anytime, it also gives me a reading on how much of my workout was 'fat burning' and my average and highest heart rate.

I would definitely recommend it as it's been a huge source of motivation to see how much I am actually burning. I am not an expert on all Polar watches so your best bet will be to google what suits you.

Are protein shakes good for weight loss?
No. A protein shake is a supplement and not a 'magic drink'. I use 'Syntha6' protein powder which I mix with water and generally the 'chocolate milkshake' flavour as it's high in protein but low in carbs and sugar. It also tastes the best and I actually enjoy drinking it. I have tried a few thanks to my husband as he's probably tried everything under the sun as he does body building. I am also not an expert on protein shakes, however I can tell you that protein is essential particularly after a workout to ensure you build and repair muscle. The aim is more muscle less fat. And just incase you were wondering I want to tone up and have some definition in my abs, not too much but enough to know there is no fat down there.

How often do you drink a protein shake and where's your protein shaker from?
Generally after each workout if I'm not going to eat a protein packed meal straight after. The protein shake is by 'smart shake' and I got mine from amazon.

How often do you workout?
I don't have a set routine as I have Esra to look after but go to the gym whenever my husband or mum can look after her which is generally 2-3 times a week, but sometimes I go more and sometimes only once a week. However, I have some workout DVD's that I do at home if I need to.

What do you do at the gym?
I generally do cardio, sometimes I do steady running to improve my fitness and sometimes I do intense interval training with 1min30sec walking and 30sec sprinting so fast you can't see my feet move. I also do speed walking on an incline, love the different types of cross trainer, and hop on and off machines if I get bored but I always break a sweat. I can't stand it when I see people at the gym leaving looking like how they came it. As they say "if you still look pretty at the end of a workout, you didn't train hard enough"and that's so true, because I always leave looking like a wreck LOL. I also work my legs doing the leg extender, leg press and adductor. I'm also experimenting with a few machines for my arms, I do squats once in a while but trying to figure out a short routine I can do everyday or every other day with dumbbells which I will share once I figure out what works for me.

Where did you get your trainers from?
I got my trainers last year from a website called 'pro running direct' but they are sold out everywhere but I am told you can get a similar one custom made on Nike's website.

FYI...
I want to finish off by saying I am not a nutritionist but am a lot more educated about the food and types of food that I eat. I am not perfect and not every meal is amazing and of high nutritional value but I do what I gotta do to keep the day rolling. I also, don't drink any alcohol whatsoever and am a non smoker. Also, I am not perfect and have a cheat meal and cheat dessert once a week. I didn't when I initially started but am not too hard on myself now as I am closer to my goal weight. I also plan on doing a 'getting started' on clean eating post with a recommended shopping list and tips and advice to beat those sweet cravings.

Good luck if you decide to love your body and start eating clean too!
Any questions just ask below and I will answer them in my next fitspo post. xx

MUMMY LIFE - Esra Aaliyah - 20 Months!

Only 4 months left until she is 2 years old. Seriously, how fast does time go by? I need to start party planning.
Life is too short, and I am enjoying the joys of motherhood. My days go by watching my little angel learn something new everyday. She does a little speaking and it's the sweetest thing in the world. My favourite at the moment is"Oh no" when she has done something naughty like pour her snacks on the floor! :)

She's quite a shy little toddler but once she's in her comfort zone it's hard to stop her bouncing off the walls.

Love her scrunched up little face when I tell her to smile!

Cheese!

She's such a cheeky little monkey and still loves her dummy. I almost went cold Turkey and just removed it permanently but I couldn't handle the crying at bedtime so gave in. I try not to give it to her during the day, and keep it exclusively for nap times and bed times and aim to slowly wean her off.

We mainly speak to her in Turkish but I read to her in both languages so she's picking up both nicely. She loves story time, and is obsessed with the book 'Walking through the jungle' purely because of the way I read it, she picks it up gives a massive 'Roarrrrrr' to initiate reading. We even swing our shoulders from side to side and sway to the rhythm of the words. She loves dogs and is obsessed with 'Peanut', (Peanut lives with my mum btw) She constantly wants to cuddle him and he just runs away, she's very touchy feely and every time she sees a dog she says "Hav hav" which is 'woof woof" in Turkish. She is still an extremely fussy eater with such a small appetite but she's nice and healthy for her age so I'm not worried. She LOVES fruit and enjoys quinoa mixed with salmon, lamb chops, chicken, chunky soup and the raw snack bars I have been making. I just wish she was having slightly more of everything, she takes a few nibbles and that's it but I have to remember her belly is much much smaller than mine! :)
Her bedtime is 7pm and she usually wakes up at 7am and naps once for approx 2 hours at around 11:30am.

Bah-bye 'In Esra's little voice'. xXx

Skin Care Haul...

It's been forever I know, I feel like Instagram has kind of killed my blogging vibe. But, I have decided to share my beauty related things back on the blog! *Woop woop*

Today I did some shopping as we are supposed to be going on holiday at the end of the month and I left for flip flops and came home with skin care! But, I did get one pair of pink flip flops from the accesorize sale! :)

My skin has been messing up lately, and I have been wanting to try something new and here's what I have opted for...
  • Argon oil- This is 100% pure argan oil which I purchased from Amazon with a cheaper price tag than the known brands. I have been using this on my face as a night time moisturiser for a few days now and I really feel like it's been helping heal my scars.
  • REN - I have decided to try the REN kit for combination skin which includes sample sizes of the cleansing gel, day fluid and face mask. The mini set was £12 and I hope I love it, my T-zone has been so oily and I  have never tried skin care specifically catered for combo skin, as I have always opted for the sensitive ranges. I'm hoping these will work a treat, I also have my eye on their BB cream, and retinoid night treatment.
  • Nourish - I have been using the replenishing peptide serum on and off, and I was given a few samples to try today which I'm intrigued to try out. It's a really nice refreshing natural brand that it also quite affordable.
  • SoPhyto- PH optimizing restorative toner - says it all really, a toner that balances the ph level of your skin, yes please!

FYI: I purchased everything but the argon oil from 'planet organic' in store.

Good skin obviously comes from within, and I got a couple of new teas today. Yes 'TEA', oh no I hope I don't do 'tea hauls' on a regular basis!

Pukka'Harmonis' organic rose, hibiscus & sweet vanilla tea - Sounds amazing doesn't it?
Higher Living - Green Tea Chai - Love green tea, and love chai tea so a perfect combo!
Keep Cup - I have been wanting one of these forever, but hesitated as I couldn't decide on the colour I wanted :) yes, I'm a bit weird like that. Today I finally got the grey cup with peach lid and pink centre, it's so pretty and I can't wait to transport my tea/coffee on the go!! :)

Have you tried any REN products? And what are your favourite toners and teas?

MUMMY LIFE - Toddler Wardrobe Storage!

I have indeed reorganised little miss Esra's wardrobe. She's almost 2 years old and has a much nicer organisation system than me. I tried to do it on a low budget but using things I already had, continue reading to see my techniques...

As she's growing her clothes are getting bigger and bigger and having just the one rail and lots of boxes under it wasn't suiting me anymore, it was beginning to turn into a mess so operation reorganisation began and I love the end result. I have been using it like this for a couple of weeks now but was waiting on some hangers so I could finally update.

Esra's little corner.. (yes, I rearranged the bedroom)

I'm going to start from top and explain my way down. I have stored her shoes up top in a box as she likes to wake up in the morning and try on all her shoes and walk around, so to prevent that they are now out of reach. Her pyjamas and tops / t-shirts are also stored in boxes.

The boxes were actually cardboard amazon boxes which I covered with pink wrapping paper and added floral paper from 'paper chase' to the front panel, I then secured ends with washi tape to prevent the paper from curling and then made little tags and added belle and boo postcards to make it even cuter. The wooden love heart pegs were from 'Amazon'. Mama is crazy, I do know. But, Esra gets so happy when she see's her wardrobe and I love it! :)

I had been thinking about adding another rail, but the wardrobe I have (Ikea aspelund -adult size) isn't really kit out for it. So, I purchased a curtain rod, and secured it with some chains and a glue gun and it has worked out great which enables me to double hang.

I had multicoloured plastic hangers before and they drove me mad, as the colours always got in a muddle. I purchased the JVL pink velvet hangers, and now none of her clothes slide off which is perfect. I also purchased some pink clip trouser hangers from 'hangerworld' which didn't look that bright on the online picture but it does the job.  Luckily her skirts are small enough to fit around the normal hangers.

I added pretty floral paper on the inside of the cupboards, just because. Her handbands are still in clear plastic pockets which I fixed with double sided tape and selotape, but this time I used bigger pockets and organised them by colour instead of putting each one individually which is quicker when in a rush. Her clips are also attached onto little brown tags which I secured with washi tape.

I added hooks on the inside of the cupboards so that I could hang her accessories on. It's so important to make the most of every space, really don't forget to make use of the inside of your cupboard doors.

On the bottom I have 3 containers for her socks & tights, summer stuff such as swimwear & hats and winter stuff such as wooly hats & scarves. I also store extra hangers at the bottom, and theres a clear container for her bloomers that match her dresses. Covering, the front panels of boxes, make a huge difference, do it too! :)

I hope that some of my organisation techniques can help you and inspire you to do a little organising. How do you store your clothes? My wardrobe is still a work in progress, but I have started on that mission again too!

Five Favourites!

Five favourites that I have been loving the past month are...

  • HOLLISTERTippers Beach Body Mist - This is such a yummy light floral scent with orange, jasmine & vanilla bean, addicted to spraying this right after my shower.
  • FUDGEURBAN Iced Raspberry and Vanilla Hairspray - This has a strong yet natural hold and leaves your hair smelling delicious, now who doesn't want yummy hair?
  • RENGLYCOLACTIC Radiance Renewal Mask - This mask contains natural fruit acids to exfoliate the skin and renew the surface, I have used this a few times now and my skin feels refreshed and much softer the next morning. A definite must for tired skin!
  • BENEFIT Fake Up Concealer - Speaking of tired, I always have dark circles under my eyes due to lack of sleep, this smooth balm instantly makes them disappear whilst hydrating them and making the eye area appear more youthful. I lost it for a while and I REALLY freaked out! :)
  • Maybelline Brow Pencil (Soft Brown) - I purchased this on a whim as I didn't want to fork out the extra £'s for a Mac pencil and I actually really love it and prefer it to any other eyebrow product I have ever used, a new staple for sure!! It's natural, soft looking and makes my eyebrows look much fuller.

A closeup of the 2 makeup favourites..

Swatches...

As you can see the concealer is very creamy and the shade 02 medium is perfect for my skin tone.
The eyebrow pencil looks really dark but once applied it's really waxy and the colour transfers quite lightly and is buildable which is perfect when working with your eyebrows.

And here's me sporting everything I just mentioned.

Yes I had a haircut! I wanted something different and it feels so much fresher and am enjoying it so far.

What products have been your favourites this month and have you used any of the products I mentioned? If so, what are your thoughts?

MUMMY LIFE - Travelling with a toddler!

Esra is almost 2, no I can't believe it either.
We are going on holiday soon and I wanted to share with you what I'm packing for Esra for the flight. Entertaining toddlers is a full time job.

Yes, it looks like I overpacked, and you are probably right...

I went for the 'Harley' ladybug Trunki & Cath Kidston large backpack.

Here's what's inside the rucksack...

It includes...
  • Colouring books
  • Story books
  • Notepad
  • Stickers
  • Crayons
  • Ipad + headphones & stand
  • Mini sports balls
  • Snacks (I got some organic sweets for her to help with the air pressure)
  • Balloons
  • Extra comfortable clothes
  • Water bottle
  • Red floral zip bag = Quick nappy change kit
  • Soft Toy (Manhattan toys - pea in a pod) I'm not taking her favourite soft toys as I'm scared she might lose them, she is familiar with this toy so should help her feel secure, I might swap it for a teddy from her bed though, not sure.
Busy Bags Include:
  • Building blocks
  • Lacing Cards
  • Plasticine
  • Spiral drawing toy
  • Arts & Crafts kit (pipe cleaners, clothes pins, feathers, sequins etc)
  • Colour matching with lollipop sticks & pegs
  • Threading game made with pipe cleaners, straws & felt.
All of this weighs 4kg. Oops!

I gathered most of the busy bag items from the pound shop, I haven't showed them to her and I know that she will be interested in them. I also wont mind if they go missing as they are as cheap as chips. The girl loves anything circular, she loves balloons and balls so I have stocked up on those. However, I did invest in the 'Eric Carle' lacing cards which looked fun, but I'm only taking half the pack. I did tons of research on Pinterest and feel happy that I'm prepared, obviously she wont use all of these on the flight, it's only 4 hours and it's a night flight, so hopefully she will be asleep. But, I can use these on the beach, waiting for food and on the way back.

I have placed twistable Crayola crayons in a fabric roll I made AGES ago that was designed to be a brush roll. Gotta love multi use items!

I also got the matching 'Cath Kidston' purse as little madam is obsessed with organising and rearranging just like her mama :) I have placed stickers, cards and odd little bits for her to play around with. I can just bring this out the bag and we will have calm! :) Well, that's the plan anyway.

The Trunki is hand luggage that's full of nappies & wipes!

Beep beep, ladybug coming through! Esra has had plenty of fun riding this around the house, so hopefully should be a hit if our flight is delayed at the airport.

I have also added a blanket as flights can be cold, theres a bottle and lots of nappies as pictured along with swimming nappies. FYI: This weighs 5.1kg exactly.

and that's all folks.

Her clothes are in my suitcase and I have packaged all of her evening outfits individually with matching accessories in ziploc bags. Her day clothes are just folded and randomly placed inside, I ironed everything so that I can take it easier on holiday, her swim suits, pool stuff and beach toys are going to be in Daddy's suitcase. I think I'm doing well.....

What do you think? Any tips on travelling with a toddler?

Airport Purchases...

Happy Sunday everyone, I have returned from our holiday in Antalya & wanted to share with you my two duty free purchases... and have a break from the dreaded holiday laundry. We had such a lovely relaxing time and these 2 products put an extra smile on my face! :)

ESTEE LAUDER 'Bronze Goddess' bronzer in medium
DOLCE & GABBANA'Light Blue'Eau de toilette 50ml

I blame Michelle from Beauty& the Blog for the bronzer purchase. Thanks Michelle :)
The bronzer is quite a dark warm shade with extremely finely milled glitter that doesn't show up when transferred onto the skin, it's perfect for olive & tanned skin tones however I'm SO dark right now that it barely shows up, but it still adds a beautiful bronzed finish and makes my cheeks look much more defined and healthier. It's a lovely long wearing shade that can be worn in all seasons, it's perfect for Autumn to warm up those cold cheeks. Also you get a whopping 21g of product which will last me forever! :)
I purchased this as I wanted to try something new, benefit hoola (review here) and soleil tan de chanel (review here) were getting a little boring, the Dior matte bronzer in shade no2 is also lovely but again I wanted something new, bronzer addict? yes of course.

Swatched below on my heavily tanned hand! :)

I have a zillion photos to sort through, and will probably post a few photos tomorrow. D&G Light blue, is a staple holiday scent for me, it reminds me of my honeymoon so obviously had to get it!

What do you buy at the airport and have you tried this bronzer?

Holiday Outifts...

I want to share with you some of the outfits I wore whilst on holiday, I obviously couldn't take a photo of every combination, but here are a few of the ones I did. I know it's miserable weather right now in London, but Antalya (Turkey) was about 38 degrees! You can see me getting darker in the photos :)

Here's what I wore to the airport...

Levi's Jeans, Asos sandals, Urban Outfitters slouchy jumper, lots of rings and 'OPI - Mod about you' nail polish, Accessorize bag, Urban Outiftters phone case.

Forever21 coral dress, I made the necklace and Asos sandals.

Here's Esra wearing a beautiful white linen dress (it was a gift) and a daisy crochet headband I made.

Levi's jeans, Primark top, H&M necklace & belt and tan wedges.

Cheese!

Esra wearing an amazing white linen Romper from Target that was sent to her from auntie Ane all the way from America. I made her a crochet headband to match.

I wore Mac 'Lady Danger'lipstick several times, whilst on holiday and am so happy I have finally found a red that actually suits me and that I feel comfortable in. It's a beautiful matte orange toned red that has great pigmentation and lasting power if applied and reapplied over blotted lips. A few people asked how I got my hair this bouncy after sharing this photo on twitter, and I basically dried as normal and then flicked the ends out with tongs and then messed it up.

Denim shorts from Primark, red cutout 'Topshop' T-shirt, Asos sandals and H&M belt. + Mac 'Creme cup' lipstick.

Orange bodycon dress from 'love my celebrity dress', asos sandals and some gold spangly earrings somewhere under all that hair.

Denim dress from Hollister, Asos sandals, Topshop flower headband and Esra's dress was from primark that she insisted she wear with her neon pink converse.

Beach bag from Accessorize.

And on the final morning Esra wearing Gap shorts and Zara T-shirt.

I did quite well on the packing front, I took 3 pairs of flat sandals but mainly wore the asos sandals, a pair of wedges and a couple of flip flops for the beach. I pre packed my evening outfits in large zip loc bags with matching accessories and labeled them with what shoes I had planned to wear them with. I also did this with Esra which made life 10x easier and quicker when getting ready in the evenings which left me more time to do my makeup and hair, a win win situation!

Now I need some cosy socks, a cup of tea and a blanket. It feels very chilly in London, take me back to the sun already!

MUMMY LIFE - How to survive a beach holiday with a toddler!

$

Yes I say survive, as it's quite difficult to look after an almost 2 year old when listening to the peaceful sounds of the ocean. It can be challenging and rewarding at the same time. We live in London so going on holiday to a sunny climate is kind of a big deal and a luxury.

Here are a few simple tips to make life easier...

TAKE A CHEAP STROLLER. Make sure to have a cheap stroller, I did see some parents dragging their beautiful expensive buggies along the sand it really horrified me, I can not ever imagine taking my bugaboo on holiday or putting it on a flight! We got a 'Zeta Voom' from amazon for £50 which does everything. It reclines, has an extended hood, foot rest, basket, and a pocket and best of all it's light and folds in 2 seconds. We used it all the time as the sun is very exhausting and so that we could enjoy our evenings after she fell asleep.

BUY A SMALL POOL. Seriously do it, I didn't do this one and we ended up buying one from the hotel for 4x the price. We set it up right next to us so that Esra could play next to us whilst  we sunbathed.

GET YOUR LITTLE ONE TO NAP. We had plenty of shade on the beach thanks to the hotels set up, they were properly set up unlike just plain umbrellas at the pool. We situated ourselves so that we could get a shady spot and a sunny spot together. Esra currently naps once a day in the afternoons, we would have breakfast and walk down to the beach and by the time it was lunch time the girl couldn't keep her eyes open. What I did for a sleeping area was bring two shezlongs (sun beds) together and lay a towel over it, (if you have a younger child you could put the mats on either sides for just in cases) We would wash her all over in the sea and then wrap her up in a towel and cuddle her to sleep which usually took about 5 mins, and she slept for 1-2 hours and missed the strong midday sun which was brilliant. However, we did have certain days where she had meltdowns so it wasn't all rosy.

PROTECT YOUR BABY - This is obvious but still needs to be stated, I used SPF50 (avene) and SPF30 (boots) for Esra, I took about 5 hats, and obviously forgot to take them to the beach sometimes so had to wrap a t-shirt around her head (see above). And, don't forget those swimming nappies!

ENTERTAIN. You saw how much stuff I was taking for the flight in this post and everything came in handy. We took LOTS of stickers to the beach, building blocks and a few other bits. We counted pebbles, made sand castles, played with seaweed leaves and drew on the sand with pebbles. Esra loved running around in circles as the waves hit her feet, seriously so beautiful for a mother to see.

TAKE THAT IPAD. Load it with favourite movies and plenty of apps. This came in particularly handy at meal times and in the evenings.

MAKE CHANGE. We miraculously managed Esra to quit her dummy a few days into the holiday. I wanted her to give it up a while back as she started requesting different coloured dummies and throwing them when she got angry (help!) But, decided the dummy would come in handy on holiday and postponed it. But the story is, I was getting ready in the evening and she walked into the bathroom and threw her dummy in the toilet *gasp* I was like "oh no" and called daddy in, he was the same and we told her it's 'yukky' now and no more dummy. She was confused and cried for a bit, but as it was a different atmosphere accepted it. So we got rid of every single dummy and that was it. Bed times became difficult as she had nothing to soothe herself with. She had her teddy but wanted to hug me alot more and as a result has become more clingy. On our return to London, she requested her dummies again thinking it was a temporary thing, but oh no, no more dummy ever! :) Dummies are for babies not big girls!

TAKE A MOMENT. Stop and enjoy your holiday. Esra had ice cream and chips everyday which she rarely does, it was so beautiful to see her discover new things and to see her personality shine through. And, don't get scared if you haven't had kids yet, it's truly precious when you have a little one and everything comes naturally and there's no need to stress. Promise!

Do you have any tips for a beach holiday with a toddler? I can't wait for our next holiday already I feel more prepared for next time! :)

Style Finds for Autumn...

I found some lovely Autumnal pieces yesterday, I had been looking for a light jacket and some accessories and it's like H&M answered my prayers.

I'm so in love with this contrasting jacket, initially i wanted it in all black but once worn it lost the impact so opted for the pale grey shade instead. It fits perfectly and is a little different and definitely one to check out.

I'm definitely an accessories person and these were just my cup of tea.

I have wanted a massive floppy wool hat forever and so happy I found one for a bargain, it fits perfectly and I'm sure you will see an Instagram shot of me sporting it. The braided headband will be ideal to disguise mummy hair and hopefully still look somewhat cool. The black cap again will come in handy when I don't have time to do my hair. Do you see a pattern emerging? Well, I haven't worn a cap in forever and figured plain black will be acceptable. Roll on hat days!

I love mustard for Autumn and couldn't bypass this gorgeous snood!

What have you picked up from H&M lately?

Cat Makeup for Fancy Dress / Halloween

Last night I was a cat!

When hubby told me we had a fancy dress birthday party to go to I was a little confused to say the least. What does one dress as without spending much money?

Miawwwww! A cat of course.

It was all in the makeup! (The photo I uploaded onto IG below)

I didn't have a specific look in mind when creating the cat makeup and kind of made it up as I went along to suit my facial features. I think it's important to do what suits you and not to copy a look entirely. Although feel free to copy this look as it's quite a soft look and one that you can't really go wrong with.

EYES - I started with UD primer potion, used washi tape to create the sharp line and used UD Naked2 palette - 'Blackout' to achieve the smokey look, blended it out with'Busted'&'Tease' with 'Foxy'to highlight which I used over'Benefit 'It stick'. I also used'It stick'in my waterline. I used Mac 'Engraved'powerpoint pencil on my lower lash line, and then got a fine tip angled brush which I wet & used to drag out the colour and create two lower flicks for a more 'cat eye' feel as I knew I wasn't going to be drawing whiskers. I then blended the whole thing out with'Busted' and sharpened the edges with concealer. I used black mascara & the corners of 'Sleek Makeup' fake lashes in 'Sphynx 231' which were fluttery yet natural. I used Mac 'Brun' e/s to fill in my brows.

SKIN - I used my beloved Mac'Face & Body'foundation with Mac 130 small stippling brush after I had moisturised & spritzed Avene Thermal Spring Water to my face. I used Benefit 'Hoola' to contour and Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess bronzer in medium to add colour.

NOSE - I used Rimmel  eyebrow pencil in 'Hazel' to draw a small outline and applied a Clinique chubby crayon in pink as a base and used Mac 'Tippy' blush for the pink nose which i blended upwards. Initially I tried a small black nose but I couldn't stop staring at the centre of my face so wiped it off and opted for a pink nose which was more subtle & cuter in my opinion. I also used the Rimmel pencil to draw 3 dots on either sides on the upper parts of my lips.

LIPS - I used Loreal 'Honey' lipliner & Smashbox 'Pout' lipgloss.

For the outfit I got some black faux leather leggings from H&M for £14.99, made an amigurumi style crochet tail which I stuffed with pipe cleaners to make it twist & sewed it on, got some cat ears (£3.50 & long gloves £5.99) from a fancy dress shop (Escapade in Camden/London)& voila. Easy Peasy & affordable. I also teamed it with a vintage black leather belt to give it more character but anything will do as long as it's black.

The hubby was SWAT which suited him perfectly, there was a convict for him to arrest which was fun! :) Everyone had great outfits, the birthday boy was 'Zorro' which was very cool, there was a banana - yes a banana lol, Mario from Mario brothers, Shrek, a joker, Snow White and many more.

Are you dressing up for halloween? What would you be for a fancy dress party?

My beautiful daughter, my princess, my everything, my all.

 HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY PRINCESS!

Thank you for all of the love on IG, we had a small family party yesterday with all of Esra's cousins, and today we have been relaxing playing with presents after enjoying a birthday pancake breakfast. We will also be going to my Nan's to have a little cake with them, and then off to the park to enjoy a little run around. I will update you with all of the details and handmade bits & pieces very soon.

I am now the mother of a 2 year old.  Hello terrible two's, hello tantrums! :)

The morning was for unwrapping presents and playing with balloons...

A pancake cake for my angel for breakfast complete with honey and sprinkes.

We had a party the day before to celebrate with all her cousins. The cake was a horse and carriage princess cake from Asda. The cupcakes were also from Asda and I added edible pale pink butterflies and pink cupcake wrappers.

We also had an extra princess tray bake cake...

Nom nom nom!

I made party boxes for the kids... I didn't have a massive sweet table like I did last year, I just packed everything I wanted so it was less mess. I also had her party at my mother in laws, so figured it would just be easier this way.

The girls ones contained all things pink...

Princess food which consisted of crown sandwiches and a star jewel.

Pink number 2 glitter sugar cookies. I used THISrecipe from Pinterest. I used royal icing and added pink food colouring and pink glimmer sugar before it was dry. Not bad for a first attempt! :)

I made tiaras for the girls and picked up some gold crowns for the boys. To make the tiaras, I drew a tiara template then cut them all out in pink card, I purchased pink jewels that already had sticky tape on the back and placed them strategically section by section, one by one (yes it took forever) I then hot glue gunned ribbon on the sides to create ties.

The boys had clear packaging and some tattoos and I got them a few blue things :) Also, I had extra icing left when I made the number two cookies so I piped everyone's initial on Farley's rusks and then added sprinkles for a personalised touch! :)

Esra wore the baby Lily dress from Monsoon. Link! I got her some gold ballet shoes from Asda and I made her the flower crochet headband.

I seriously cannot believe she is 2 already, it seems like yesterday I announced my pregnancy. Life really is too short and goes by way too quickly. My angel, my everything... Esra baby may Allah bless you with a long, healthy and happy life inshAllah. Your every smile brightens up my day and I will be the best possible mother I can to look after you and show you the right way. Happy 2nd birthday Princess Esra Aaliyah! xXx

Riri Hearts Mac...

Finally a collection that's worth the hype?

This collection has to be my favourite LE packaging from Mac! I placed my order at 11am last week and it was so crazy as everything sold out so quickly, twitter and IG was tapping away and I couldn't resist.

Drooling over rose gold!

I got 4 things!

2 of the lip products,'Talk that talk' and'Riri Woo'both retro matte finishes with uber pigmentation for statement lips.

And swatched...

'Talk that talk' is similar to 'Dark Deed' from the VV collection but a different finish, 'Riri Woo'is extremely similar to'Ruby Woo'which I don't have, it's a very close dupe for Illamasqua 'Sangers' lipstick in colour and finish.

I'm really into dark matte lips but I like it mostly on other people rather than me, I think it's a great colour for Autumn/Winter and hopefully I can pull it off! Watch this space :)

Bad Girl Gone Good.

The blush. OMG the blush is amazing! The texture, finish and pigmentation is divine, the colour is a beautiful warm copper with a satin finish that matches my NC35 skin tone perfectly, it's lovely and deep and I don't need bronzer with it. It may be a tad too dark for slightly paler skin tones but it could still work with a lighter hand. It will also look amazing on deeper skin tones to reveal a more golden uplifted cheek. I can not fault this blush and I want to wear it everyday, definitely going to be a statement for Autumn. I have read that some people say that it looks too orange, yes it's warm toned and coppery but once applied and blended gives a lovely tanned glow.

Swatched - applied heavily on the left and blended out on the right, you can see how natural it looks. I would say it's in the same colour family as 'Warm Soul'& 'Sun & Moon' mineralised blushes, so if you like those, you will love this!

Diamonds - Cream Colour Base

This again is a beautiful product, great for highlighting and adding a glow.

It has a frost finish which is quite apparent when swatched but once applied on the skin and blended looks beautiful and lit from within. It's has a lovely golden shimmer and can be applied lightly or heavily depending on the desired effect. I wore both cheek products yesterday and they looked AMAZING together and had great lasting powder. I didn't take a picture sadly but will do a FOTD with it soon.

Did you manage to pick up anything from this collection? And what are your thoughts? Worth the hype or not? I certainly think so.

On My Hook...

I'm currently making myself a super snuggly snood, I find crochet so therapeutic and wish I had more time to indulge in my hobby.

Here's what's on my hook!

I'm using 'Big Softie' Sirdar yarn in the shade 'buddy' which is a lovely milky pale pink.

I'm using Nicki Trench's 'Seashell Stitch'pattern from her book'Cute & Easy Crochet. I have used this pattern several times and it works up quite quickly especially with such chunky yarn and a 10mm hook. It isn't too complicated but requires some concentration, so I would recommend it if you are becoming more confident and want to try something new.

I have used 2x 50g balls so far and have just ordered some more, expect to see a nice snuggly outfit post with this beauty soon!

Storage Monday - Makeup

I have decided that every Monday will be a storage post. Go me! It was supposed to be on a Sunday, but Sundays are for chillin'. Mondays are for getting your act together. I will share with you little corners of my home and how I organise and store things.

Here's my makeup corner which is basically a little shelf from Ikea and a mirror above that I picked up from a charity shop years ago.

My makeup is stored in the Ikea wooden boxes as you have seen before, I recently re-did the drawers again with wallpaper that I can wipe clean. It's actually leftovers from the sitting room feature wall. I had previously spray painted the frame a matte white.

Yes I still have my Dymo labels. The labels used are - Gloss, Eyes, Pigments, Bases, Perfumes & Cheeks. Yes, I keep my perfume in a drawer, I'm not too crazy about having them on display as it can look cluttered. (I would love to have them on show if I actually had a proper dressing table and a massive room!)

I said bye bye to the crochet bunting and did a photo banner with black & white Instagram prints. I had ordered them from Prinstagram for Esra's birthday, but they arrived too late as Fedex was being weird. So I used them for this project instead. I hung them up with twine and small wooden pegs and it turned out pretty cute!

On top of the box I store some everyday items for easy reach, brushes, palettes and lipsticks. The rustic silver pot stores my hair bands and hair clips. The lipsticks are stored in a clear acrylic cube from Muji. Yes that's my condensed lipstick collection. :) The small rustic drawer unit is from 'Butlers' and the lower drawer stores all of my pencils.

I always like to burn a candle and it's currently'Mellow Figs & Garden Mint'by Lily Flame which smells lovely and fresh.

And that's a wrap. I don't have a chair, I just rush around standing up with my face pushed up against the mirror. If I place a chair under it then Esra climbs up and then I'm basically finished. Out of reach and out of the way is my motto.

How do you store your make up?
What would you like to see in next weeks storage post?

'Winterberry' by Aveda

I am indeed loving the bolder lipsticks this season and this new addition from Aveda has got me quite excited. Aveda has always been known for its hair but apparently they are quite good at make up too. Well, this limited edition 'Heart Land' collection anyway.

The lip product in question is 'Winterberry' which is actually a lip glaze with doe foot applicator similar to a lip gloss but extremely pigmented and more like a lipstick. It's a dark pink toned plum/burgundy with a subtle hint of a duochrome pearlescent finish, it's not glossy or sticky, just smooth and hydrating. It's quite long wearing considering the finish and fades really nicely too. There's also an eyeliner called 'Night Lily' which is a dark purple toned plum with finely milled sparkles, this isn't as pigmented and as long lasting as I hoped, but you can't win them all.

In love with the packaging!

The lip glaze has fresh minty scent with only a very slight tingle when applied on the lips. It's such a gorgeous shade perfect for Autumn/Winter.

And applied...

On my face I'm wearing: Bobbi Brown bb cream, Benefit 'fake up' concealer, Estee Lauder 'Bronze Goddess' bronzer, strobe liquid. 'Winterberry' lips, 'Night Lily' eyeliner and mascara.

It's definitely a brightening lip colour and one that makes your teeth look even whiter thanks to the subtle cool tones. You can apply a sheer layer and build it up, or apply heavy handed and intensify as desired. A colour that is suited for all skin tones and races. Thank you. I'm in love, need I say more?

Winterberry Lip Glaze £16
Night Lily Eye Definer £14

Storage Sunday - Yarn

Happy Sunday!!

Today's area of concentration is Yarn!! Well I wish my yarn was stored in open bookshelves all neatly bundled in balls but that's not the case. I store all my scrummy yarn in the Ikea 'Hol' storage cube and also use it as a coffee table which makes it easy access all the time. It's also only £16 which is brilliant!

It's really convenient for everyday use and helps save space.

In the top layer I keep my current projects, tools and yarn that I plan on using for upcoming projects. I try to group them by fibre and thickness, and sometimes by colour.

The bottom layer has lots of colourful yarn, some acrylics, bamboo cotton, wool and other mixtures.

My hooks, needles, thread & scissors are all stored in a Cath Kidston tin. My favourite hook to use at the moment is a 4mm Clover hook, which I basically use for almost everything. My other favourite is a vintage double ended bamboo hook which is the smoothest in the world! I do like my other bamboo hooks too, particularly the chunky ones but the smaller ones are a little flimsy and rough.

How do you store your yarn?

Mermaid Hair!

I dyed my hair last night thinking I wanted a change, and a change it is. I now have deep red hair and am officially a redhead. Red has always been a colour I have steered away from and generally disliked, but all of a sudden I love and and feel like it's my colour. I feel like it matches my skin tone and features and really brings out my eyes, why the crap didn't I try this shade before? My mum said my hair was an aubergine colour and that's exactly right.

I did a DIY box job myself at home and used the shade 'deep red' by Garnier Nutrisse, see my twit-pic HERE to see the box. It was a mousse hair dye that delivered completely even results, I applied the whole thing to my hair combing through each section and left to develop for 30mins. My hair previously was a dark brown with a faded blonde ombre. With some hair dyes, I get lighter results on the roots of my hair due to its natural colour and darker towards the tips, but that thankfully didn't happen. I got 100% coverage and even colour!

In the shade my hair looks almost black, a quite dark reddish brown but as soon as the light hits it the vividness and red tones shines through, it's not too dramatic which I love as I don't feel like I could have pulled it off comfortably.

I love how the red contrasts with my hazel eyes and makes them 'pop' so to speak, I feel like rich plum, coffee browns and golds will look amazing with this new hair colour. I actually can't wait to try some new looks! I'm actually a little obsessed with deep red right now... uh oh!

Until next time. xXx
